Implantology
Intake / 1st consultation
After receiving a referral for implantology consultation, an appointment for 1st consultation is made with the patient. During this consultation, the patient's request for help, medical history and history are reviewed.
Based on the findings of the oral cavity examination combined with any additional examinations (radiographs, light photos and CBCT), a treatment plan is proposed to the patient, which is accompanied by a corresponding cost estimate. If the patient agrees with the treatment plan and the associated costs, appointments for treatment are scheduled.
After the surgical-implantological treatment is performed, appointments for wound monitoring (1 to 2 weeks after implant placement) and checking osseointegration (3 to 6 months after implant placement) follow, after which patient is referred back to the referrer for making a crown, bridge or prosthesis on the implants and aftercare.
Bahandeling
Anaesthesia and duration
Implant placement is generally performed under local anaesthesia. Treatment time depends on the situation and varies between 30 and 90 minutes.
Registration
All inserted implants and biomaterials are registered so that all information remains available afterwards. The patient receives an implant passport that shows the dimensions of the implants inserted and the biomaterials used.
Placement technology
Usually, a healing cap (called a healing abutment) is placed directly on the implant (one-stage technique). Alternatively, a cover screw is placed in the implant over which the gums are closed, after which a minor procedure is required 3-4 months later to lay the implant free (two-stage technique).
Aftercare
Immediately after the treatment, information is provided to patient about wound care, healing and any after-effects.
Communications
Your referring physician will receive a letter from us about the treatment carried out, clearly indicating the size of the implants placed and when the prosthetic phase can start.
Additional intervention
If there is insufficient bone volume for immediate implant placement, bone remodelling can be performed prior to or during implantation, using autologous bone and/or a bone substitute. This also applies to the gums around the implant, which in some cases need to be thickened to protect the implant.
Other information
Aftercare
1-2 weeks after implantation, we see the patient again for a wound check-up. Here, the sutures are removed if necessary and information is given to the patient about oral hygiene and maintenance during osseointegration and afterwards. Typically, we use an osseointegration period of 12 weeks in the mandible and 12 to 16 weeks in the maxilla.
At the end of this period, a final check-up appointment is made with us. Here the osseointegration is checked clinically and radiographically. The control photograph is sent digitally to the referrer. After checking the osseointegration, the patient is referred back to the referrer for the manufacture of the crown or bridge on the implants.
